HEY GIRL Radio: New single by CATBEAR

‘In The Night’ is a latest single by indie synth dream duo CATBEAR

CATBEAR is Zoe (she/her) and Sarah (she/her), two best buds who like hanging out making nostalgic electronic alt pop music, wishing they were living in the future where everyone rides a fluorescent hoverboard and neon spokey dokeys are still cool.

LOVE. LIFE
“This song is about those times I’m lying in bed, can’t sleep and all I think about are the memories that are best staying lost – obsessing over what might happen, anxiously visualising how things could turn out as the late night hours tick past. Insomnia sucks!”
catbear-hey-girl-magazine-3

Always fiercely independent, CATBEAR began life in the 2010s as indie post-punk grrl trio Cat Bear Tree, sharing the stages with Nova Twins, Skinny Girl Diet and the Tuts as they blazed a trail through the London live scene. Their captivating three-part harmonies juxtaposed with shouty gang vocals sat atop fuzzy guitars. They loved being part of the DIY music community and released 2 EPs as a trio. During some time apart Zoe had been starting to produce her own solo releases and when Sarah and Zoe got back together as a duo, a new 80s-influenced sound emerged and CATBEAR was born.

“Need Me’ is a love song. This song goes out to people that are willing to sacrifice everything for the people they love. The people that are always available for the ones they love. This song is powerful, it’s a song for the heart and the message that is being sent out is that “love is a beautiful thing, and if you happen to find love, enjoy the most out of it”. I’m very excited about this release because it’s been a year since I dropped music and I know my fans have been yearning for it. It’s finally here and I believe it’s going to be another global wave!”

HEY GIRL Radio: Gabby Wilson

Swedish singer-songwriter Gabby Wilson’s latest single “The End” is a eulogy for a relationship past the point of saving…

While she mourns, Wilson couldn’t resist glossing the track with an offbeat, bittersweet coating. It speaks to Wilson’s instincts as a pop singer, with a capital P, unafraid to shake up everything you’ve come to expect.

“The End” is a pop-indebted final fanfare, complete with theatrical sweeps, yet it’s far from conventional. While she wears her vulnerabilities on her sleeve with rolling drums and twinkling piano, the track also fizzes with synths and distortion. The track has the golden touch of Phil Greiss (Jason Derulo, Nicki Minaj, David Guetta, J Balvin) who has mixed and mastered “The End” to a highly polished sheen.

Gabby Wilson’s music is not just sonic, but sensory. The Swedish singer-songwriter’s style is a canvas spattered with a thousand influences – it looks as striking as it sounds.

LOVE. LIFE

With the release of this track, another side to Gabby Wilson unfolds. As well as co-writing on Katrina Stuart’s fizzy banger “In My Veins“, her debut single “Hug It Out” was an infectious pop confection about barely concealing the cracks of a relationship falling apart at the seams. With the likes of Human Human, Lefuturewave and Clout on board with Gabby Wilson, she’s already promising to be a new rising star in the world of Scandipop.

“The End” is the next – and final – chapter in that story. She says:

“I wrote this song after my long-term partner and I decided to go our separate ways to kill a relationship that was killing us. It’s about having unfulfilled dreams, and the everyday coming between you both in a relationship. Even when you break up you find yourself still unable to fully let go.”
