We are buzzed to introduce the amazing singer songwriter UPSAHL.
Wow this girl has talent, we just love her UPSAHL vibes and style. We hanged out in the digital land, made a collaborative one off HEY GIRL/UPSAHL Tee and chatted all about her music and new single!!! The new single ‘STOP’ is Featured of the HEY GIRL Radio page here.
Let’s chat….
“My sound is … Bad bitch music to dance to while you cry.”

Hi there , what have you been up to today?
I’m on my 4th coffee and making some TikToks before I start a writing session over Zoom.

What can you see out the window right now?
My neighbor’s front yard. I lowkey feel bad for them because I forget the window is open half the time and have truly become “the naked neighbour in the window.”

How would you describe your music?
Bad bitch music to dance to while you cry.

Tell us about your new single ‘STOP’
STOP! is an unapologetic, sexually empowering song. I could go into some deep explanation of how we wrote the song, but it’s really just about being horny waiting for your significant other to come over – ha!

When did you first get into music?
My dad was in punk bands when I was growing up, so I was drawn to the music scene at a really young age. We had a band room in the house and I started learning instruments as soon as I could walk. My love for music and songwriting kind of snowballed from there.

How would you describe your style?
For many reasons, most notably my last minute nature, I’ve found myself cutting up my clothes (pants, tops, etc) and mixing and matching. I’ve also been feeling very “red” for the past year or so.

What pulls us apart?…  Close minded people. I feel like the world would be a much better place if people would just open their hearts and have new experiences.”

What’s your favourite thing about Instagram?
IG Stories. The fact that Instagram archives them allows you to look back at basically a video journal of all the things you’ve done. Whenever I get sad about not being able to tour, I just rewatch all my stories from when I was on the road and re-live them.

What don’t you like about Instagram?
It can be toxic. Everyone is guilty of only showing the best version of themselves on IG, so we’re all just scrolling through unrealistic expectations all day. It can fuck with my head pretty quickly, so I only really use IG to post and talk to my fans.

Where has been you best gig?
Lollapalooza in Chicago! It was my first festival and I didn’t think anybody would come and right as I walked onto the stage a sea of people showed up and rocked the fuck out with me!

What’s the power of live music?
It’s everythinggg. Live music is one of the few things that really brings people together, no matter what their differences are. At the end of the day, we’re all at a show because we like the same music and want to have a good time.

What brings us together?
Music ^^

What pulls us apart?
Close minded people. I feel like the world would be a much better place if people would just open their hearts and have new experiences.

How do you feel when you sing?
Singing makes me feel the comfort of home. I sing a lot at home, whether it’s writing a new song, singing a song from another artist I love or just humming.

What’s the oldest guitar you have?
I have a tiny guitar that my parents gave me when I was 5 years old. I learned how to play guitar on it.

Where would you like to be in 5 years?
If I can be doing what I’m doing now, but on a larger scale and connecting with more fans, I’ll be stoked. Just being able to make music everyday is a dream already.

Ask HEY GIRL a question?
I love Hey Girl’s focus on female empowerment and lifting each other up. What inspired that?

Great question and thanks for the big up, well being a guy and in the Photography industry for over 20 years, I have seen sides of it that were it wasn’t equal and there was this pressure on women on the way they looked and how they should be. And so I wanted to creative Magazine where its was more about freedom and individual creativity, a safe creative positive media space to free up people from old outdated stereotypes and celebrate diversity!!

NO ONE should be made to feel bad for who they are or feel pressure to be anything other themselves.
