So what are those sweets we had growing up? Squashies? You know the ones that are pink and yellow… taste strawberry style… well, going off topic — this new song from Noah Lefgren, “Baby Baby,” is like a musical version of them. Ha ha. This guy has such a laid-back groove he must be able to get under lower bridges no probs, just floats down the road.
Meet Noah. Mr Low-Fi Groove. This song has a fab, addictive (in a good way, must be the sweets) vibe, with rolling beats of soft funk. His creativity seems effortless. “Hey man, it would be good to have a video to go with your song…” “Sure, give me a few hours” — and he makes it. Lo-fi video style works so well because it’s authentic. He’s in the flow. The creative flow.
“Baby Baby” opens Noah’s new mixtape, Under Heaven; Tweak Us All. Eight tracks, self-released, and built to feel caught rather than crafted. Vocals sit low, buried in the mix, nothing explained, nothing tied up neat. It’s less a record you listen to and more one you happen to be in the room for. That’s the whole point. No polish for polish’s sake, just a guy logging exactly how he’s feeling, track to track.

This is our jam. No overthinking, just let that creative flow out, being authentic and real. We would love to hear this tune on a big sound system, bass bumping and jumping, imagine hundreds of people doing the same move to it, maybe on the beach… ohhhhh shoot, idea incoming.
How can guys be better allies in the music industry?
“I think recognizing that, having that mindset where it’s like… If someone’s good, they’re good. Not really taking into consideration like gender identity, sexual orientation, like ethnicity, it’s like… yeah, if somebody’s good, they’re good. And work with them.”
“I think… actively supporting… particularly female instrumentalists, because they’re so underrepresented in the music industry. And, like, producers… Like, in circles I’ve been in, it’s kind of like a boys club. Where it’s, like, so many dudes, so many straight dudes. It’s like, if we can find a way to… bring more diversity into that. “
Who are some female artists you’d recommend?
“Beeson… a brilliant singer songwriter. Like the next Phoebe Bridgers. She’s brilliant.”
“Bryn Ripley. Best sax player right now… she’s been performing a little bit with… this, like, all-female band. And they’re brilliant.”
“Ella Feingold. She’s a trans woman, greatest guitar player in the world. She auditioned for Prince’s band before he passed… she was, like, too funky for him. Which I think to be too funky for Prince, is like… what are you doing? That’s crazy, you know? She’s brilliant.”
